Lymph drainage massage and a frequent wear compression garment are usually part of the treatment of oedema and the treatment and ongoing management of lymphoedema.
Compression garments promote the drainage of lymph fluid by applying firm pressure around the breast, body and/or arm. Since muscle movement also encourages lymph flow, garments are likely to be more effective when worn whilst active or exercising.
The type of compression garment and what is meant by frequent wear can vary depending on the severity of the condition and are best determined by an occupational therapist or physiotherapist.

These special purpose garments provide compression to the breast, chest and/or underarm.
Nodules on the inner surface of the bra continually massage the skin to promote fluid movement and swelling reduction.
The vest provides increased cover to the chest and armpit.
After-surgery compression garments may be a less expensive continuous wear option, especially when used in conjunction with pads.
They can provide breast or underarm cover, and the clip adjustment allows for the pad and then any size reduction as swelling reduces.
Pads are shaped to the breast and underarm and have a corrugated surface that can soften congested tissue and promote lymph fluid drainage.
They are placed inside a bra or garment for targeted pressure to the underarm or around the breast and underarm.
Sleeves have different compression ratings. The occupational therapist or physiotherapist will match the rating to the condition.
They provide cover from the upper arm to the wrist or palm. There are also separate gauntlets and gloves.
A strip of roll-on body adhesive down the upper arm can help keep sleeves in place.
Bra pockets can be sewn into the cup of a bra to form the pocket that holds a breast form in place.
Using the sleeve donning cage is an easy way to fit a compression sleeve.
